Bernice Yoshida

Bernice Etsuko Yoshida, 81, of Kealakekua died Nov. 15, 2016, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born May 3 1935, in Kealakekua, she was disabled.

Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua with a 4 p.m. memorial service. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by brothers, Kenneth (Sumiko) Yoshida of Los Angeles, Harry (Linda Ann) Yoshida of Kailua-Kona, and Glen Yoshida of Kealakekua; sister, Helen (Edwin) Nagata of Kailua-Kona; several aunts and uncles; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Andrew Perez Jr.

Andrew Nicholas Perez Jr., 68, of Hawi died Dec. 4, 2016, at the North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born April 12, 1948, in Kokoiki, he was a residential grounds manager at the Mauna Kea Resorts. He was a member of the Local Boys Softball team and an assistant pastor at the Kohala Gospel of Salvation Church, and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Visitation will start at 5 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Kohala Gospel of Salvation Church in Hawi with a 7 p.m. service and all night vigil. Visitation will continue at the church at 8 a.m. Dec. 17 and funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Milicent Perez of Hawi; sons, Andrew (Ainjel) Perez III, Joshua (Reva) Perez of Aiea, Oahu, Aaron (Alicia) Perez, Japheth (Christina) Perez, all of Hawi, Jared (Brandy) Perez of Halaula; daughters, Andrenette (Jim) Perez and Jezreel (John) Funk, all of Hawi; brothers, Rockney (Fran) Perez of Aiea, Oahu, Clarence (Kuulei) Perez of Hawi, Randall Perez, Gilbert (Diana) Perez, all of Hilo, Kimo (Sarah) Perez of Halaula, Alvin (Bertha) Perez of Ainakea, Gregory Perez of Maui, and Glen (Beth) Perez of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Sandra (Mikey) Pakele of Maui, Lemomi (Stephen) Kihara of Hawi, Noelani (Dave) Mackowiak of Ainakea, Naliko (Alan) Median of Honolulu, and Nalani (Garrett) Sugata of Kokoiki; 16 grandchildren; several aunts, uncles; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Leatrice Muronaka

Leatrice Mieko Muronaka, 73, of Hilo died Nov. 30, 2016, in the Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 2, 1943, in Papaikou, she and was the co-owner of the former Wally’s Repair Shop in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Dec. 16 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Casual attire is requested. No flowers.

She is survived by husband, Wallace Muronaka of Hilo; brother, Tadashi Haimoto of Hilo; sisters, Shizuko Hohu of Honolulu, Yaeko (Howard) Hose, Violet Sakamoto, all of Hilo; numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and cousins.

Tomie Matsumoto

Tomie Higaki Matsumoto, 90, of Honokaa died Dec. 1, 2016, at home. Born in Paauhau, she was a retired bookkeeper with the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and a member of the Hamakua Jodo Mission.

Private family services were held.

She is survived by son, Cary Matsumoto of Honokaa; daughters, Lani (Donald Newlin) Matsumoto of Puyallup, Washington, Joyce (Bert) Tatemichi of Honolulu; brother, George (Jean) Higaki of Honokaa; sister, Ann Higaki of San Francisco; four grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
